Books to prepare a high school student for a Pharmacy Career?

Posted by admin on July 14th, 2010 and filed under high school | 3 Comments »

I am currently a senior in high school and I am planning on pursuing a career in Pharmacy. Even though I have time before I start taking classes to prepare me for when I enter Pharmacy school, I would to know are there any books, for high school students, basically teens, that will teach/explain/prepare me for what I have ahead?

I don’t know about specifically Pharmacy, but I studied Biomedical Sciences and more with the book "The Human Body In Health & Disease" by Thibodeau and Patton. It’s really helpful for learning, at a very good level of depth for a teenager, about the different human body systems. It goes through each in a way that helps you understand them very well. You should learn more about this book, and buy it if you think it will help you.

How can I transfer from Catholic high school to public high school?

Posted by admin on July 11th, 2010 and filed under high school | 2 Comments »

I’m pretty much finishing up my freshman year at the Catholic high school Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School (New York). I strongly want to transfer to a public school. I would prefer a public school in Queens. I would like to know how I would go about transferring? Do I have to contact the public school? Forest Hills High school is not my zone school, but I it is a choice of mine. Is there any way that I may be able to go there? Thanks in advance.

Unless the school in Queens has open enrollment, you would have to go to the public school in your zone. Call the one in Queens and ask them if you would be allowed to transfer there. I notice that high school students automatically email. Other than universities, schools are more apt to answer a phone call than an email.

How much is tuition for a high school student attending a school outside of the district?

Posted by admin on July 8th, 2010 and filed under high school | 2 Comments »

I am a high school student thinking of attending a school that is outside of my district, however, I would have to pay a tuition. Does anyone know more or less how much that would be for a high school student ? I haven’t told my mom yet and just want a ballpark estimate. Keep in mind that this is not a private school, if i was in the same district it would be free.

I live in Montgomery County (outside Washington, D.C.), and no one is knowingly allowed to attend public elementary, middle or high school here, unless they live here. No money will change that.

Keep in mind that there are over 1 million counties in America, so it would help if you told us your area.

How important is participation in sports in high school for college admission?

Posted by admin on July 5th, 2010 and filed under high school | 4 Comments »

I have never participated in high school sports and I’ve always wanted to do track and cross country but never got the chance to. Although, I am attending this high school in college program where I attend community college and receive both high school and college credits at the same time but I can still join high school activities. Is it even worth it? Or do other things such as community service and jobs too as important to them?

The purpose of extracurricular involvement is so that colleges can evaluate your committment, teamwork (common goal), and general involvement in your school community. These factors can easily be transferred to the college community, which is what the colleges want. If you are not athletically oriented, then try being a manager or stats person or join clubs/groups at your school. Volunteering is demonstrating your character in a larger community, like your town, state or nation. Try to demonstrate both extracurricular and volunteering.

I am a school counselor and have worked with hundreds of students and parents. The same questions about how to find the right college or plan for college keep coming up. I decided to set up some online classes (self paced) to answer many of your questions and activities to help in the process. My site is located at globalscholar.com and type in my name "Kerrie."

How important is high school physics for a bio major in college?

Posted by admin on July 3rd, 2010 and filed under high school | 2 Comments »

I want a biology major in college but I don’t want to take physics in my senior year of high school. Will it make a difference if I don’t take physics in high school?

high school physics are useful for math and engineering majors. furthermore, it is interesting. i loved it so much i took physics 2. i am going into neuroscience, which is centered in biology. it will look good to a college because physics is challenging. but if you dont want it, then dont take it, cause you dont really need it for biology. =)
